PROBABILITY QUESTION George is playing darts on a circular dart board. the dart board has a radius of 18 inches and the bull's eye in the center of the dart board has a radius of 3 inches. What is the probability that a dart thrown at random within the dartboard will hit the bull's eye? (PICTURE OF THE BOARD IN THE COMMENTS)

here's the problem

@dan815

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you need to measure the areas of the 2 circles in the figure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you remember the formula for the area of a circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area of a circle is is a=pi(r^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what are the areas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

324 and 28 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have the best calculator so some things come out weird

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 28/352. Do you see why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(reduce it before you use it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the probability? 7/88

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because its the probability it'll hit the bullseye, which is the area of the inner circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noooo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i dont understand what your saying >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the real answer is 28/324

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wasnt thinking lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH okay i was about to ask where 352 came from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that reduces to 7/81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the reason why is because there are 328 possible square inches that the dart can hit. out of those spaces, 28 are within the bulls eye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty, that makes since yeah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on to the next question :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can I ask you another probability question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put another one up and I will answer it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if I can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ill close this one and tag you in the next, i only have a few left on the study guide i'm stumped on!
