Hello everyone !! Help Please I will reward Nancy rowed across the lake with her friend Kelly at a rate of 4 mph. Kelly then rowed back at a rate of 3 mph. If the lake is 6 miles across, how long did it take them to complete their trip?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the lake is 6 miles across and nancy rowed at 3mph, that would mean nancy did the first trip in 2 hours. If kelly rowed at 2mph, then kelly did the trip in 3 hours. So the answer would be 5 hours. 6miles/3mph = 2hours 6miles/2mph= 3hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was trying to type that first ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your fine! haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I forgot the answer choices A 1 1/3 hours b 3 1/2 hours c 1 1/6 hours d 3 hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait thats not one of the answer choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your saying it would take 5 hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Garrett372 shes/hes right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me re look at that real quick hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok take your time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes its 5 hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh thats not one of my answer choices :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take your time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 and a half hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

took 1 and a half hours to get there and 2 hours to come back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you how did you figure that out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hence 3 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it was a confusing question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you understand it now right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats my main goal for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i gave you best response and ikr its the rate of change and i have 9 more questions to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright whoop them out ill help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 at a time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!! and ok i will lol

Marsha works at a garment factory as a seamstress. She can sew her portion of 5 garments in one hour. If she always works 8-hour days, how many garments can Marsha sew her portion of in 3 days?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 per hour. 8 hours per day for 3 days

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have the answer but tell me what you get first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A 40 B 120 C 13 D 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the constant rate of change be 5 per hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you are thinking about it to much, look at what i said before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yeah i second guess my self its a bad habit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if she can so 5 per hour, and she works 8 hours a day. how many can she make in a day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! now how many can she sew in 3 days if she can sew 40 in one day?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

120?!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great Job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Martha is driving to Miami for Spring Break, and she averages 60 miles per hour for 3 hours while she's driving on the highway. While she's driving on side streets for 1 hour, she only averages 45 miles per hour. What is the total distance that she covers on her road trip?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so how long does she drive on the highway? (60*3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

she drives 3 hours on the highway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i mean distance sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 60*3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh its ok i got 180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok and now how far does she drive on the streets (45*1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and add those two together and you got yourself your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

225

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY! omg you are so good with this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kyle and Steve start at the same point and walk in opposite directions. If Kyle walks at 2 mph and Steve walks at 3 mph, how far apart will they be after 3 hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much! Are you starting to understand this though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok do (2*3) and (3*3) and add those two answers together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand i think i will try this problem out my self

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its ok!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep and is that an answer choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it was and i got it right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great i'm glad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

send the next one but try it yourself and you can check your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have 5 more problems to go and ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Robert's average speed is 30 miles per hour in heavy traffic, and his average speed is 50 miles per hour in light traffic. If he is in heavy traffic for 1 hour and light traffic for 3 hours, how far does Robert travel?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 180

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 180 miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great job you are getting it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get this one Nick and Willie go jet-skiing for the same amount of time. Nick travels 9 miles at a speed of 9 miles per hour, while Willie travels 13 miles at a speed of 13 miles per hour. For what amount of time were Nick and Willie each jet-skiing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 2 hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at it again and think about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh it was kind of a trick question i was thinking about how long they were jet sking thats how i got confused beacause they didnt tell you how long they were jet sking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it correct right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh it was wrong!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh was it one hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was 1 hour Nick and Willie spent the same amount of time jet-skiing. So, use Nick's distance and speed to calculate the amount of time he and Willie spent jet-skiing. Substitute d = 9 miles and r = 9 miles per hour into the distance formula, and solve for t. d = rt 9 mi = (9 mph)(t) 1 hr = t Therefore, Nick and Willie each spent 1 hour jet-skiing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh im sorry it tricked me big time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they give explanations if you get it wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok i still have a good grade!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it was so obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im ready for the next one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i am on number 7 If the ferry that Melissa is riding covers 100 miles in 2 hours, how fast is the ferry traveling?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you divide that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50 miles in 2 hours

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50 miles per hour

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yay i meant per hour thanks !
