check my answer! logarithm question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ive gotten different answers for this one so im not sure. how would you solve this one @Nnesha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually nevermind, im pretty sure im correct.

Nnesha (nnesha):

huh ??

Nnesha (nnesha):

it is the same question that we just solved

Nnesha (nnesha):

no! that's not correct i just told you ;-;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what! i thought i did it right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i added 1 to both sides, then i got 5x=4. then took log of 5 and added base of 10 to the 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10^4 is 10000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my bad, i attached the wrong picture!

Nnesha (nnesha):

what are you talking about ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

_-_ i see

Nnesha (nnesha):

-.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the one im talking about, my bad.

Nnesha (nnesha):

show ur work please that's not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i stated it above^ added 1, added base of 10, took log of 5 and divided by 5

Nnesha (nnesha):

nah nah nah it's log (5x-1) you CAN'T Break the rules

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh okay my bad. they didnt add the parenthesis! it wasnt clear! hah

Nnesha (nnesha):

-1 is in the parentheses remember first question where you have to change exponential to log form so now convert log to exponential form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay so i get 5x-1=e^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is 5x=21.085 then divide by 5 and get 4.217

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm but that isnt an option

Nnesha (nnesha):

nope have to change it into exponential form

Nnesha (nnesha):

look at ur first post where i post exponential and log stuff i can't use colors here :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what should the equation look like then?

Nnesha (nnesha):

http://openstudy.com/users/sammyjpod#/updates/555e0001e4b0dee2e68ddcea this one read my comments :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i want it in b^x=y form?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes !! right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so do i use e at all?

Nnesha (nnesha):

don't need e for this you have to use e to cancel out "ln"(natural log) not his one

Nnesha (nnesha):

this*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah okay. so to make it b^x=y.. does the 5x-1 go in place of y?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and 3 goes in place of x?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

Nnesha (nnesha):

and \[\log = \log_{10}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so b^3=5x-1, and b is 10?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so 1000=5x-1 then add 1 and divide by 5 to get 200. thank you!

Nnesha (nnesha):

np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2000 was the correct answer.

Nnesha (nnesha):

what but HOW ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

|dw:1432233047362:dw| 1001 divide by 5 =x
