Which event resulted from England's conflict with Spain in the 1500s? A. England was forced to give up Protestantism and restore Catholicism as the official religion. B. Elizabeth I and Philip II agreed to end their conflict in order to join forces against the Dutch. C. Spain lost its dominance of the seas after England defeated its fleet, the Armada. D. The Spanish Armada defeated the English fleet and ended England's attempt to build an empire.

I think it's C?

OpenStudy (soullesseyes):

A conflict as in a war, yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah because I remember Spain always loosing to English Ships during war so c is correct right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think it could be D but then I do...I think one time a Spanish ship defeated them.

OpenStudy (soullesseyes):

That would make sense. Although Spain typically had more/tougher ships, England had much better strategies and almost always beat Spain. Then, after all the defeats, England had gained a large fleet of ships. Spain was going to lose in the end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah I see so yeah C would be best then. But wait I thought that Spain ships lost always because they didn't have as advanced weapons and ships as the English? Am I wrong? Sorry just wondering in case future questions about this.

OpenStudy (soullesseyes):

Their weapons were not as advanced and their ships were quite slow, but they could typically take some beating. After some time though, England started to upgrade their ships similarly, and with their weapons along with the newer ships...Spain was at a loss. But yes, Spain typically had more advanced ships.
