How does a guitar string make a sound wave? A. Striking the string compresses the air around it to create a sound wave. B. The vibrating string alternately compresses and rarefies the air to make sound. C. The string strikes the wood of the guitar, which vibrates to make the sound. D. The string moves air through the hole in the guitar to create sound. **I am not sure :( thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not very sure... i want to say it is either C or D since the wood panels and the hole make the sound more evident?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes! the wood panels or the wood structure is working as resonant box, nevertheless the sound is generated by the string, since it, alternatively compresses and rarefyies the surrounding air

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay!! so would it be choice C or D? I am not sure which :/

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think B

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

sorry, it is option D, since the wood structure, as I said before, works as resonant structure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay! so just to make sure! this is the solution? D. The string moves air through the hole in the guitar to create sound. ?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

yes! I think so!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay!! thank you1! :D

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

thank you!! :)

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

if you cover up the hole in a guitar, you still get a sound.
