Atoms are constantly "jiggling" in their molecular lattices. This movement is kinetic energy. The more they move the more kinetic energy. Temperature is an indirect measure of this energy. So "movement" is what ultimately temperature is measuring.

When waves combine they can be constructive or destructive. In both cases they interfere with each other. It really behooves you to read the text as this would have been fundamental coverage of wave taxonomy. Does interference sound familiar to you? If not you must reread the material. This is not a berating but rather a friendly encouragement not to short change yourself. Time is precious for all of us. I know this stuff but to understand it yourself, you need to take this more seriously. I'm assuming that you should know this because I have seen students just try to get through, ask some basic question that would have been covered in a line or two in any textbook. I think you can be a better person than that, you can do better. Challenge us with some really good questions, like why does this happens -- not what. You can find the whats, the why questions are where you'll learn. I really hope you don't stop asking questions, that's not my intent. My hope is that you'll fall in love with this stuff, like most of us online here have and that means not fooling yourself -- keep trying my friend. Peace
