solve (9^-6)^3=9

OpenStudy (mle):

Hello! are you sure you aren't missing any variable or made a typo in your question? :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i typed it as it shows

OpenStudy (mle):

well I am pretty sure (9^(-6))^3 doesn't equal 9 is there some sort of x or n or a letter among the letters that could have been attached to the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it simply says solve (9^negative6)^3=9

OpenStudy (mle):

*among the numbers sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

np :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im just trying to finish this...lol

OpenStudy (mle):

*shrugs* ok then I'll do my best to work with what I have then, there is this idea that (x^a)^b = x^(a*b) for example (2^4)^5 = 2^(4*5) = 2^(20) do you see what I did there? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

trust me... it makes about as much sense to me as the Dead Sea Scrolls would

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u put the variables on each side of the equation

OpenStudy (mle):

hmm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... you wrote it out in long form sorry

OpenStudy (mle):

it's ok xD so did you understand what I meant? what do you think (9^(-6))^3 would simplify to then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3^36??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(^-12) to the third power

OpenStudy (mle):

yesh ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or rather 3^(-12)^3... ugh... trying to solve is hard enough without trying to remember the right ways to write it too...lol

OpenStudy (mle):

it's correct either way ;P I just don't know what to do with it after this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me either lmao... it makes no sense... funny thing i watched my teacher take the test ...her own test... and she got 84%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if i am looking at it wrong and it is simplify..like (9^-6)^3=9___

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be (-6)^3=____

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would make more sense that way i think

OpenStudy (mle):

ehhhh I don't think dividing with exponents work like that xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sheesh ... idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that is what gets me but i think that i was reading it wrong and it is: let me try to attach an image of the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a blank after the 9 =9___

OpenStudy (mle):

oh! just put ^(-18) there xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks mLe
