guyz what is the definition of exponent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised, usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression

OpenStudy (lizz123):

A number placed above and to the right of another number to show that it has been raised to a power. For example, 32 indicates that 3 has been raised to a power of 2, or multiplied by itself; 32 is equal to 9. Dictionary was used.

pooja195 (pooja195):

The exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication. In 82 the "2" says to use 8 twice in a multiplication, so 82 = 8 × 8 = 64 In words: 82 could be called "8 to the power 2" or "8 to the second power", or simply "8 squared" http://www.mathsisfun.com/exponent.html

I will fan you all

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Sorry, @Pooja, but 82 is simply the number 82 which is 2 more than eighty. \(8^2\) and 82 are very different things.

OpenStudy (lizz123):

:)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

An exponent is a way of showing repeated multiplication. An integer exponent 2 or higher means how many factors are multiplied together. The factor is the base.

pooja195 (pooja195):

i meant 8^2 >_<

pooja195 (pooja195):
