Python beginner, help and advice?

Hi! So, i want to learn how to code. 

And, since im a beginner, i decided to start with Python. But, im having quite a bit of difficulty. 

i looked up things for beginners to try and do, and was immediately overwhelmed

. i know some basics due to having some tech-y friends in the past, like typing certain things. but, not much. i know like... print "Hello, world!" and ive been trying a few exercises from www.learnpython.org and i have been completing them easily, but still find it very confusing.

 like, i understand how to type something, but when it comes to "Play rock paper scissors with the computer" (an actual one i tried to do) i failed miserably. i almost think i 5 year old could have a better attempt. 

So, for anyone that knows this, any advice or videos or tutorials or ANYTHING would be helpful! 

Links, programs (like, interpreters or code editors/text editors that are free and easy to use) would be useful And, advice or descriptions, videos, definitions, anything really. i want to learn all i can, to hopefully become good at this.

 And, what kind of things can you do with coding? i know you can make games, websites, etc. but is there anything you can do besides the obvious? 

Sorry for this being so long! If i have it in the wrong spot, please tell me!

Get a free book: http://www.greenteapress.com/ OR, try the refactored version for learning Python for Data science: http://www.pythonlearn.com/ The Python Learn book is made by a professor that wrote part of the REGEX standard, so he REALLY knows his computer science back to front, sideways, and so on. Well, he decided to make a revision of the popular "Think Python" free book in a structure that is less focussed on math and more on data. There is nothing wrong with this approach and he added videos to go with it! So it is a really great way for any self starter to get some good code skill going without a heavy focus on the math.

Coursera's Programming for Everybody (Python) is a great course for beginners. The next course begins on October 5. All the presentations and examples are available to the students
