Will fan for best response , NO DIRECT ANSWERS. What is the mean absolute deviation for the data shown in the stem-and-leaf-plot? A. 6 B. 9.3 C. 9.7 D. 19 http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1417500_1418000/1417704/1/d58d9a9f14a1dfa92b58121348c4856b1d986a54/FGA_130917_261027.jpg
@tkhunny
It's a procedure. It's not a mystery. :-) 1) Calculate the mean. 2) Calculate the deviation from the mean for each observation. 3) Find the absolute values of the deviations. 4) Add up all the absolute deviations. 5) Divide by the number of observations. Done.
So my answer is D.
TY @tkhunny
Okay. Is that correct. I didn't do it. I'm hoping you did. If you did it correctly, and you managed Choice "D", then that's awesome. Since you showed none of your work, I can't verify that.
Oh I will show you my work
@tkhunny
I did 2+10+16+21+27+38=114 divided by 6=19
Why did you just use the values? Please use the procedure shown. 1) Calculate the mean. 2) Calculate the deviation from the mean for each observation. 3) Find the absolute values of the deviations. 4) Add up all the absolute deviations. 5) Divide by the number of observations.
That was calculating the mean. Now do the rest.
