Why was the battle of the Hornet's Nest so significant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not at all ive been trying to find out for like 20 minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a It allowed Grant time to set up a defensive position near the river. b The Union was able to hold onto it until late in the afternoon. c The Confederates tried at least six times to take the position. d It showed people that Confederate soldiers were better than Union ones. I no its one of those

Well, here's the thing. The confederates tried all morning to take the sunken road, and the yanks held their ground; the problem was, after 6 charges, it became too much. The confederates took a victory and over 2,000 union P.O.W.s. Seemed like a victory, that is, until they realised that Grant had established a new defense line near Pittsburgh landing ^^ I personally would go with A.
