OpenStudy (theyankee):

Can somebody show me how to factor this quadratic equation?

OpenStudy (theyankee):

2x^2 – 5x – 3

OpenStudy (er.mohd.amir):

2x2-(6-1)x-3=2x2-6x+x-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=(-b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac})\div2a\]

OpenStudy (er.mohd.amir):

2*3=6 make factor of 6 as difference is middle term that is 5

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Oh! Quadratic formula. Yes. Would the solved product be the factored form?

OpenStudy (theyankee):

I'm going to be putting it into a rational expression :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm fairly sure, yes.

OpenStudy (theyankee):

I'll post what I got in a minute. Could ya'll check it over?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure :)

OpenStudy (theyankee):

I got 3 or -0.5. Correct? And also, if that's factored, how do I know which to choose...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I don't know if I messed up or not but I got 5.83? I'm probably very wrong. xD I'm sorry.

OpenStudy (theyankee):

That's alright :/ I'll have to try elsewhere. Thanks anyway! I just double checked my answers, here, though http://www.math.com/students/calculators/source/quadratic.htm
