OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

What conic section does this equation represent? 9x^2+4y^2+18x=16

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Isnt it a circle?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

With no xy-term, these are eyeball problems. Both Positive? Ellipse unless coefficients are the same, then Circle. Just ignore x-terms, y-terms, and constants.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

\(9\ne 4\) Ellipse, not Circle.

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Its a parabola

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

No, parabolas can't have x^2 and y^2. x^2 and y -- parabola x and y^2 -- parabola x^2 and y^2 -- NOT a parabola.

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

it is though I looked at the answer sheet

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

I know it frustrated me as well

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Then the answer sheet is wrong or you have written the problem incorrectly. These are the ONLY two choices if that is what the answer sheet things.

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Maybe I wrote the problem incorrectly. thank you anyways I have another question, are you willing to help?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Posts new questions on new threads, please. Use what you learned here to show your best work. Maybe what we learned here was not to rely on the answer sheet.
