Oliver has a medical illness that requires regular CAT scans throughout the year. His health insurance policy, through a coinsurance agreement, pays 60% of the cost for scans 1 – 5, 65% of the cost for scans 6 – 10, 70% of the cost for scans 11 – 15, and 75% of the cost for scans 16 – 20. Oliver is responsible for any scans over 20. If he receives 24 scans throughout a year at cost of $190 each, how much is Oliver’s out-of-pocket expense?
@mathmate
@arek ?
(190*.6)*5+(190*.65)*5 etc
but whats the answer to that?
@mathmate
Would you try to work it out according to @arek's formula?
what do you do after where he put etc
You keep multiply $190 by the percentage until you get to the 20th time, then he pays full price for 4 more times
ok!
wait im lost could you help me to get to more because you added a 5 to the 6
@arek
That's because after 5 scans, the percentage he has to goes up 5%. The first 5 times he payed 60% (.6) and the second 5 times he had to pay 65% (.65)
would the answer be 2,565?
Nope. Check your calculations
little less or much less then that number?
@arek
@arek ??
I got 3225
ok got it!!!
