Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? I like.. just did everything I had to do.. I don't see how 1/2 is the answer http://prntscr.com/7eemx3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Solve for y to get \[\Large 2x - 4y = 10\] \[\Large 2x - 4y{\color{red}{-2x}} = 10{\color{red}{-2x}}\] \[\Large -4y = -2x+10\] \[\Large \frac{-4y}{{\color{red}{-4}}} = \frac{-2x+10}{{\color{red}{-4}}}\] \[\Large \frac{\cancel{-4}y}{\cancel{-4}} = \frac{-2x}{-4}+\frac{10}{-4}\] \[\Large y = \frac{1}{2}x - \frac{5}{2}\] The last equation is in the form y = mx+b where the slope is m = 1/2

Wow.. Thank you. :) I was totally off track xD Thank you for explaining. c:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Your method would work only if you had 2 points. But you had the right idea somewhat

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Also, the two points are (5,0) and (0,-2.5) notice how the 2.5 is negative

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

and the slope formula is \[\Large m = \frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}\] the y difference is up top. So you had that mixed up as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I didn't know that x) Thanks again c:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no problem
