Which is an innovation of gymnosperms? a) Gymnosperms are the first seed plants. b) Gymnosperms are the first flowering plants. c) Gymnosperms are the first vascular plants. d) Gymnosperms are the first spore plants. I want to say it's A, but I would like some confirmation please.

Why are seed plants an evolutionary advantage? a) Seeds allows for the transport of water and nutrients. b) Seeds develop into adults without sexual reproduction. c) Seeds protect and nourish young, growing plants. d) Seeds provide the materials for photosynthesis. I almost want to say either A or D this time. They both seem possible

But at the same time the roots allow for transport of water and nutrients, not the seed itself. But I'm doubting that the seeds provide materials for photosynthesis. The seed does not protect the young plants, so would it be B instead?

That one about the evolutionary advantage of seeds should really be a mix of A and B. Seeds, which are zygotes (fertilized eggs), contain structures that allow for initial germination without the need for very much foreign nutrients or resources. Water can be generated by the dehydration reactions of molecules. Further, for the w/o sexual reproduction thing, the seeds are just like a human fetus in a way. Both potentially will develop into mature adults that can reproduce, but for seed plants they can wait an indefinite period of time in what would be conceptually similar to the frozen embryos used for in vitro fertilization among humans and other animals.
