Is there a massive difference between lighted and weighted keys on a piano keyboard?

I mean, I understand that for beginners they need to develop muscle strength and whatnot through practice. I own a lighted keyboard, and I know that when I move onto a weighted keyboard it might be harder for me to adjust. Should I just get a weighted keyboard now? Or could I improvise by pressing harder on the piano keys or other finger exercises?

You should use the light weighted one for aleast a couple months before switching because weighted is for people the have experience light weight is for beginners that want to move up you should do finger exercises to improve yourself but wait a few months for the weighted one

Well, weighted keyboards feel more like actual pianos, and I would guess that they sound better (I don't own one, so I'm not sure about that), but they do make it easier to change the emphasis on your notes (like fortes and whatnot).

I actually learned with the heavy so... not that i use a more modern light one I see some mistakes i make for example my fingers slip and on the keyboard it's more noticeable and on the heavy it's harder to accidentally press a wrong key.

I agree with you on that one! Then wouldn't it be better to train myself on a lighted keyboard so I know which keys not to press?

I think heavy is more for pro's, light are like more for beginners, cheaper and portable.

I asked this to my teacher, and he recommended starting off with a weighted keyboard regardless if I'm a beginner or not.

Really depends on which one you expect to stick with ^_^ I mean when u look at a pro piano that is heavy it gives ur fingers the idea that every keyboard is heavy and when you try playing a light one it will sound idk maybe to direct... when it should be light and slow

Do you really want a acoustic piano? It rarely fits into places from their size and their not cheap either

Also due to the wood it might get heated and it starts expanding. Making it get out of tune and I never seen a piano get tuned.

Not really, I just want to have some kind of talent other than academics.
However, my parents are crazy about buying an acoustic piano in a couple of months.

for half or quarter of the money your going to pay for the huge wooden one, you can get it a nice piano thats less space, less weight, less money.

My parents and I aren't concerned about the money, but you do pose accurate points. I'll stick to the electronic lighted keyboard for now… it's really fun playing in all of those different tunes haha :)

Np ^_^ here's options btw in the keyboard section http://www.samash.com/keyboards/ But I would call my local store if I were you... I saw amazing prices on the web and when I went on Sunday they said the website only states whats in stock in the SamAsh store storage house so you have to order it.
