What is the value of x? 10° 11° 20° 22°

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

What does supplementary mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two Angles are Supplementary if they add up to 180 degrees.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TheSmartOne

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Ok, so what does that mean about our 2 angles-- 10x and 80 -- in the picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk that's why i am asking for help

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Can you set those 2 angles to add up to 180? Since they are supplementary, that way you can solve for x...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if they're supplementary angles, and supplementary angles are angles that add up 180 degrees, I would think that adding those two angles would get you 180.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So we get \(\sf 10x + 80 = 180\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So \[\large angle_{1}+angle_{2}=180\] Does that seem like a good representation of supplementary angles?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

First, we will need to isolate the x. So what do we do about the '80' ? Do we add it or subtract it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

well you are adding it on the left hand side. What is the opposite of addition?
