Include an equation relating the heights of the Sears Tower, which is 1454 feet tall, the two antenna towers on top of the building, which are a feet tall, and the total height, which is 1707 feet. @phi

"which are a feet tall" is there any missing value in this part? I don't think the question makes sense to me. So you have to create an equation in terms of the height of the tower?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, have to make an equation, like to find a variable. The problem before this involved the height of the statue of liberty, and it was 154(the height of the pedistal) + s (the statue) = 305, and solving for s we get 151, so the statue istelf is 151feet tall.. but idk what to do with this next question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not even sure if its saying that both antennas combined = 1 foot or if EACH antenna = 1 foot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm.. what does the variable 's' stands for? (sorry, i'm still trying to understand it)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i post a link to the book page?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, I think it will help a lot :)

it's on page 88

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that's the statue of liberty example, and then the question looks like this: Use the information about the Statue of Liberty on page 70 to explain how equations are used to describe heights. Include an equation relating the heights of the Sears Tower, which is 1454 feet tall, the two antenna towers on top of the building, which are a feet tall, and the total height, which is 1707 feet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah okay, now it makes sense "a" is the variable that represents the height of the antenna. the total height is 1707 ft and the height of the sears tower is 1454. Like the statue of liberty problem, you can set your equation like this: total height= height of antenna + height of the tower

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 1707 = ? +1454.. sorry i'm having trouble with the antenna part, are both 1 foot tall or each are 1 foot?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or is that the variable i have to solve for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the variable you have to solve for :) you already have the equation but instead of "?", you use "a" so it will be like: 1707 = a +1454 |dw:1434053263683:dw|
