OpenStudy (gentorr):

okay i found this armed forces integration was the forerunner, but the main force didn't pick up until brown v board of education in 1954. the montgomery buss boycott followed this in 1955 after rosa parks refused to get up from her seat to let a white folk sit down. king was appointed president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and achieved buss integration in montgomery. in 1956, fred shuttlesworth began the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights in birminham, alabama, organising his own boycott of the dowtown busses (but he was not as successful as King was). in 1960 the sit-ins became popular in the carolinas and spread quickly across the south. in 1961 the freedom rides started; they also swept across the south. 1962 King went to Albany, Georgia to tackle segregation there, but was defeated by the white forces there. shuttlesworth was still in birmingham, keeping the efforts alive, but he needed help and called on King and the SCLC to help out. the events in spring of 1963 forced Kennedy to administer a civil rights bill to congress on june 19, 1963. johnson signed the bill on july 2, 1964.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Surana @GenTorr

OpenStudy (surana):

I'm fairly certain the one you seek is the first of these.

OpenStudy (gentorr):

one second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The graph below shows the number of people employed in the textile and apparel industry in the United States from 1950 to 2002: A line graph of jobs in the textile and apparel industry shows a decline from about 1.2 million jobs in 1950 to about 400,000 jobs in 2002. Three Western powers—the United States, France, and the United Kingdom—were original members of SEATO, the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization. Why would those powers have joined a mutual defense organization in Southeast Asia? All three nations were asked to become members by weaker Asian nations. All three nations wanted to contain the spread of communism in the region. All three nations had established colonies in the region. All three nations wanted land and ports for military bases in the region.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Surana AND @GenTorr

OpenStudy (surana):

Look to the one that would be the first of the even numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did the launch of Sputnik affect the American public? It prompted Congress to investigate communist infiltration in the federal government. It made many Americans realize that communism was not an inferior economic system. It raised fears that the Soviet Union could drop a nuclear bomb directly on the United States. It showed that the U.S.S.R was more interested in scientific development than in an arms race.

OpenStudy (gentorr):

one sec

OpenStudy (surana):

That one, you'd want the second of the odd numbers.

OpenStudy (gentorr):

The launching of the Russian satellite "Sputkik" was a major even in the Cold War and sparked the "space race". "It raised fears that the Soviet Union could drop a nuclear bomb directly on the United States" would be the best answer.

OpenStudy (surana):

Yep.
