Do I multiply -3 to |-6+8| to find my answer? ( Orginal equation : -3|-6+8|=? )
hmmm.... I would solve the problem inside the absolute value sign and then take the absolute value of it using absolve value rules...
order of operations will have you compute the absolute value first :)
so what is -6+8 ?
2 😃
So -3|2| now
yes so you have 3 abs(2) since 2 is already a positive number taking the absolute value of 2 is just 2 so what is 3 x 2?
I meant -3 x 2
ohhhhh okay so once I solve the absolute value the " | | " go away?
oh my... I'm a mess.. you have -3 abs(2).. 2 is already a positive number inside the absolute value signs, so taking the absolute value of 2 will just be 2 and then you will have -3 x 2
it goes according to the absolute value rules.. if you have abs(2) . taking that absolute value of a positive number is just that positive number abs(2) is just 2
And then the answer is -6 ?
if you have a negative number inside the absolute value, taking the absolute number will make it positive .. ex abs(-5).. taking that absolute value will be 5 and yes the answer is -6
Ohhhhh okay so wait if I have a positive number |7| will it turn negative when I take the absolute value?
and be -7 ?
no any positive number inside the absolute value signs.. will still be positive. all results of taking absolute values are positive regardless of the situation
Oh okay always postive .. must sketch that into my cerebro lol thank you so much sorry if I confused you lol
plus that site has practice problems
Omg thanks that cleared things up lol thank you so much ! I was a bit like okay kinda get it and now I understand it way better
