The average of Jim's two test scores must be at least 90 to make an A in the class. Jim got a 95 on his first test. What grades can Jim get on his second test to make an A in the class? Jim's score must be at least

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To take the average you add the two scores and divide by how many scores you added. The first test is 95 The second test is x because it is unknown We are averaging two tests. We need a 90 as an average. So \[\frac{ 95 + x }{ 2 } = 90\] Solve for x. That will be the score Jim needs

okay so average is total sum over number of points of information so the average sum/number=90 sum = (95+B)/2=90 95+B=180 180-95+B B=85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at least 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because if you get a bigger test number for the second test, you get a higher average

OpenStudy (anonymous):

medal me please
