rewrite 1/10000000 as a power of 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many zeros are in 1/10000000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops,, its 8 zeros

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I count 7. Are you saying it was supposed to be 8 originally?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. since 100000000 is in the denominator, make the 8 negative. 1/10000000 = 10^-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the number of zeros is the exponent on 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, Okay thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're welcome

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

@peachpi thanks for refreshing my memory on that... I saw the problem with 100000000 which is 10 to a positive exponent until I saw that fraction 1/ that number... and then while reading your comment, it just occurred to me that 1/ that number is related to (that number)^-{exponent}

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

blah I meant (10)^{-exponent}
