For the samples taken from two populations, the difference between the sample means does not fall within the 95% confidence interval. If the null hypothesis is, “There is no difference in the sample means,” which statement is true? A. The null hypothesis must be accepted. B. The null hypothesis must be rejected. C. Both the null and the alternative hypotheses must be rejected. D. Both the null and the alternative hypotheses must be accepted.

@mathmate
@Pandemonium When should we accept the null hypothesis?
im completely confused on this one, idk how to do it at all
my guess would be C @mathmate
I believe a reading on the concept of the null hypothesis would help you better understand the question. We either accept or reject the null hypothesis. The second case means we accept the alternate hypothesis, which is the negation of the null hypothesis. Therefore we cannot reject or accept both, because they are mutually exclusive. A reading of the definition and description of the null hypotheses will shed light on whether you should accept or reject the null hypothesis. See, for example, https://explorable.com/null-hypothesis
Wow thanks man that helped alot @mathmate
so what would you say it is @mathmate
i obviosly get that it cannot be C or D but i cant tell whether its saying the difference is great or minute
This is what the 95% confidence interval means. |dw:1453518041544:dw|
