Simplify the expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4\sqrt{6}+5\sqrt{6}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{6}\]\[\sqrt{6}\times \left( 5+6 \right)\]

Could you explain how you would get the answer? My textbook didn't help me.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Let \[\large \sqrt{6}=a\] Plugging in a to replace the square root of 6 gives us \[\large 4\sqrt{6}+5\sqrt{6}=4a+5a=9a\] If we now replace a with the square root of 6 we get \[\large 9a=9\sqrt{6}\]
