How did the Romanticists feel about government?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

How did the romantics feel about government? I know the Enlightenment bought about feelings of individual liberty and democracy through people like Locke and his Social Contract Theory.

OpenStudy (isry98):

Depends on which Romanticist you are talking about

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Just the Romanticism period in general. Sorry for the ambiguity.

OpenStudy (isry98):

Well I mean there were some very different views regarding government

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Interesting. I am doing a project on it, and had to read books like Rip Van Winkle to form an idea. I do not think it has soaked in yet.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

I know the Enlightenment was more rationalism and romantic more individual.

OpenStudy (isry98):

Okay so you mentioned Locke what were his ideas?

OpenStudy (isry98):

and how do they pertain to government?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

The people giving up some of their rights in order to have a government that protects and serves them. Also stressed individual liberties. Further, pertaining to the Enlightenment in itself, ideas of democracy and limited government. Most importantly, civil rights.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Sorry, not civil rights, but universal equality.

OpenStudy (isry98):

There you go

OpenStudy (isry98):

Have you heard of Hobbs?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Yes, I have. Did he not say people were inherently bad?

OpenStudy (isry98):

He was very cynical of people...

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Ok, so I need to go do some research on him.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

I also know romantics were big on nationalism, but I just cant understand why. I have research for days.

OpenStudy (isry98):

You can definitely gain some differing opinions for your report by researching him

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Can you give me your opinion?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Anyone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry not my strongest subject :/

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

My DT466E engine in my bus is gonna die if it does not get romantic help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Avoid mass tagging

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Sorry.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

So nobody knows?

OpenStudy (anwaarullah):

It arose as a reaction to the Enlightenment and the French Revolution. Instead of searching for rules governing nature and human beings, the romantics searched for a direct communication with nature and treated humans as unique individuals not subject to scientific rules. Napoleon’s invasion of central Europe also helped start a movement that emphasized the authentic national culture such as the vernacular and folklore instead of the language and customs imposed by the foreign ruler.

OpenStudy (lillivarner99):

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):
