Find the following measure for this figure. Area of the base = 8 square units 16 square units 64 square units I believe the answer is 8 but I'm not quite sure

You're looking for the base of the cylinder? That's a circle, so the formula for area is A=pi*r^2
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but as I read it, none of the answers you posted are correct, since none include pi.

I thought it was the radius multiplied by height * pi
If you want the AREA of the BASE, that won't involve the height. The formula for area of a circle is A = pi*r^2 If your choices all include pi, then yes, the answer is 16 pi sq. units. If you post choices for a multiple choice question, it's important that you post exactly what the choices are. You can just type "pi" if you don't want to use the equation editor, but don't just ignore it.... :)
I'm sorry! I'm new here lol So how would you find the lateral area for the same figure?
The volume of the cylinder would be V = h*pi*r^2 (area of the base x height). I don't think r*h*pi would be.... anything. :)

Lateral area would be the area of the outside of the cylinder, right? Without the bases. So you need to think of "unrolling" the cylinder. It would be a rectangle then, with height = h =6, and base = circumference = 2pi*r = 8pi.
