Which activity distinguishes the larva stage from the pupa stage of an insect? A. feeding B. reproducing C. locating shelter D. making its own food

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you believe is the correct answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know its not c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mabey B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll leave it up to @Shirley27 as he/she knows better than my background knowledge ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could u help me understand @Aureyliant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok.. give me a few moments please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk

OpenStudy (shirley27):

Larvae are the ones who just hatchet out of the egg and focus their energy on collecting food and nutrients. In butterflies, it would be the caterpillar. Then in the pupa stage, the larva morphs into the adult form, in butterflies, it would be in a cacoon and unmoving. I unfortunately do not have an answer cause I'm not really sure but maybe this helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its reproducing into a butterfly

OpenStudy (shirley27):

I'm going to eliminate b since both do not reproduce, only adults do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (shirley27):

Not really reproducing, only changing, it isn't producing a new individual.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o ok

OpenStudy (shirley27):

Think of the pupa stage as a rebirth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i really think its B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Aureyliant do u agure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Agree or Argue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

woops agree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with Shirley's logic, but it is entirely up to you whether or not to accept his/her advice. I always say to go with the answer you have a gut feeling on if you're not sure, but sometimes you should listen to those who try to help out :)

OpenStudy (shirley27):

I would also eliminate d since insects don't produce their own food.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what other would it be C???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that"s my next guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

feeding???? y

OpenStudy (shirley27):

I'm afraid I got no answer. This isn't my best area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (shirley27):

Well, for shelter, one is in the open, and one is in a cacoon, for feeding, one is actively finding food while the other isn't eating at all... except I'm not sure if a caccoon counts as shelter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imma say c then thanks
