OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the importance of geographic isolation in speciation?

OpenStudy (aalixh):

Geographic Isolation makes it so that members of the same species have different traits, but can still produce fertile offspring. Think of Darwin and the Finches.

OpenStudy (shirley27):

Geographic isolation is when one species becomes separated geographically. Because Of differences in the environment of the two locations, each population develops their own unique traits until their behavioural or physical differences make them reproductively incompatible and thus becomes two separate species. Darwins finches are an example of adaptive radiation.
