What is the value of m in the equation 5m − 7 = 6m + 11? 18 1 −18 −1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got 1

To figure out this we need to simply it. I would first take out the extra from it, put the letters on one side and regular numbers on the other. So, we would take the -7 and add it to the other side. 5m-7=6m+11 +7 +7

i suggest a site called mathway.com

Or, to make it easier, you could already subtract the 5m from the 6m. 5m-7=6m+11 -5m -5m Then simply from there.

you literally just put the question in and it gives you the answer.

so that means my asnwer would have been correct ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m=-18

You can do this one in your head in two steps. 1. Move 5m to the RHS. 6-5 is 1m. 2. move 11 to LHS and combine -7 and -11 which is -18 The variables do not HAVE to be on the LHS.

oh well thank you for that infromation :D
