ok there are many explanation to this but here's mine if we let n=1 we would get 2*1-5 so the first term would be 2 and well a difference mean a negative of a# so we get -5 ...thats how i look at it...but im sure there many other ways too...

common difference always includes the variable. which comes out to 2 which is the singular term and then - because its common difference then 5 which is the difference and n because its the remaining variable. done.
