HELP! I'll fan and give a medal
HI!!
this is like the tenth time i have seen this question, maybe i should make a template for it
first off it says "Write an equation in one variable " and your equation has two , so lets start again
Ok, other than that, am I on the right track?
secondly it has "find the total number of liters of apple juice and water in the jar. " which is stupid because you know the number of liters of water right?
Yea, 1 right? And there's 3 of juice?
yeah so it is easy enough to solve in your head one liter of water, 3 liters of juice makes 75% juice but i guess you still have to come up with an equation that they like
lets see if we can do that, even though it is not necessary to write an equation to solve this rather simple question
we can call the number of liters of juice \(j\) if you like, since that is what you have to find
that means \[j+1\] is the total amount right?
Yea
and since it has to be \(75\%\) juice we also know \(j\) must equal it must be \(.75(J+1)\)
set \[j=.75(j+1)\] and solve for \(j\)
3
you will get \(j=3\) when you solve that, just like you knew at the beginning without resorting to this rather silly equation
yeah you got it
Oh ok. So that's the equation?
that is one you can use, yes and it does only have one variable
j=.75(j+1)=3
oh no, not = 3
solve \[j=0.75(j+1)\] and you will get \(j=3\) as the solution
Ohh ok. Makes sense.
good!
And just to make sure this would be part B? j = .75(j + 1) j = .75j + .75 j - .75j =.75 0.25j = .75 j = 3

yes
