Why is biochemistry controversial?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

"biochemistry" is a very broad term, perhaps there is something more specific you may be referring to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I took a test yesterday and that was the question so is it because some of the outcomes might be negative?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

possibly? this is kinda difficult to answer without any more context what have you been learning about in your class lately?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Biochemistry like experiments with cloning I guess? I honestly don't know because it was one tiny section about GMOs and cloning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also does increasing the concentration of a solution affect the reaction rate at all? sorry to be asking so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never mind to the concentration thing i found the answer

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

Oh, in that case, yeah, I see where there are some ethical issues about GMOs and cloning GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are controversial, especially since many of the foods that we eat have been genetically modified (plants are genetically modified to produce bigger fruit, etc.) and some people are against this practice Cloning is an issue for a number of reasons, especially the idea of human cloning. On one hand, human cloning could help alleviate problems like infertility and disease, but there are also problems with how we would treat these clones, and whether it's ethical to create new human life this way

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

there's a lot of interesting information on the web if you need more help :) http://www.cagreens.org/platform/gmos-cloning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Well, biochemistry can touch on protein sequencing, which can be used to engineer biological weapons. One great example of this is anthrax. Biochemist introduced an alien gene into the bacteria \(Bacillus~ anthracis\) which altered its immunological properties causing it to become a deadly biological weapon.
