Twice the sum of the length and width is equal to the perimeter (perimeter is 34),\[\Large\rm 2(\ell+w)=34\]So then,\[\Large\rm \ell+w=17\]Then from the other piece of information, The length is `2 more than` `twice the width` \[\Large\rm \ell=2w+2\]Adding 2 to each side gives,\[\Large\rm \ell+w=3w+2\]\[\Large\rm 17=3w+2\]So you get a width of 5 when solving that, and substituting that back into the other equation l+w=17, gives \(\Large\rm \ell=12\)
