y = 3x + 3 y = x − 1 Explain how you will solve the pair of equations by substitution. Show all the steps and write the solution in (x, y) form.
Any ideas?
Do you know what the substitution method is?

just flip it to the other side y=3x+3 becomes y-3/3=x and y=x-1 becomes y+1=x
thanksss
y = 3x + 3......so now we substitute 3x + 3 in for y in the other equation y = x - 1 3x + 3 = x - 1 --- subtract x from both sides 3x - x + 3 = x - x - 1 -- combine like terms 2x + 3 = -1 --- subtract 3 from both sides 2x + 3 - 3 = -1 - 3 -- combine like terms 2x = -4 -- divide both sides by 2 2/2x = -4/2 x = -2 now we sub in -2 for x in either of the original equations to find y y = 3x + 3 y = 3(-2) + 3 y = -6 + 3 y = -3 now we check.. y = x - 1 -3 = -2 -1 -3 = -3 (correct) so your solution is : (-2,-3)
