Hey I am working on buckling these days... basically FEM analysis.. I m concerned about buckling of frames... when I consider sway frames.. I think we would add the stiffness relating to sway for both columns... not getting good results pls suggest..

@manisha_sachdeva \(\Large\rm\color{blue}{Welcome~to~OpenStudy!}\) Well, can you Say, what kind of help is required for you ? Are you asking about Buckling restrained braced frame(BRBF) or FEM analysis ?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Much of buckling design is done individually on beams and columns, taking into account of the end constraints, as provided for in most building codes. Perhaps the following article could be a good starting point if you'd like to investigate beam-column interactions in out-of-plane buckling. http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/civil/publications/2008/r891.pdf or any other academic article on the subject. For sway frames, perhaps another factor to consider is the P-\(\Delta\) effect, which relates to second-order bending moments generated by vertical loads acting on a laterally displaced structure. Using FEM, this could be handled by iterations of the deformed-frame geometry.
