OpenStudy (mathmate):

With the transformation g(x)=f(x-h)+k, the transformed function g(x) is translated h units to the right, and k units up. \(For~example\), if f(x)=2x+3 g(x)=2x-7=(2x+3)-10=f(x)-10, that means g(x) equals f(x) translated \(downward\) by 10 units.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But how would i do that with an exponential function?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the question what do you have to do to get from f(x) to g(x)?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

g(x) = f(x) plus added movement

OpenStudy (triciaal):

I got C

OpenStudy (mathmate):

As @triciaal indicated: g(x) = f(x) plus added movement applies whether f(x) is a linear or exponential function. What is important is what does the "added movement" take to go from f(x) to make g(x). In the example I gave, by subtracting 10 (movement = -10) we get g(x). What does it take for the given exponential functions?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

do you still need more help?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

review movements left or right changes x add or subtract respectively up or down changes y add or subtract respectively
