Well, what did you get for any of the terms?  For example, what "absolute" is out there in math?  Ands when you take that "absolute" and add it to the term "equation," what do you get?

As for parent functions, the term "parent" does not really stem from mathematics.  But in life if you say, "Parent" people know you mean something or someone older.  Well, in math they mean the most basic, unchanged version.  The parent is the simplest version, which makes it "older" because you can find the parent first.  That help?
