PLEASE HELP Which of the following represents the graph of f(x) = 2(x + 3)

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

hi. Whenever you see a () and depending on the sign you are shifting left or right if you see a + in the () you are moving left if you see a - in the () you are moving right

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

() <- parenthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok thank so it would be this right?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

(x+3) means we're moving left by 3 units do you have the original graph with you or do you have a question that just says "Which of the following represents the graph of f(x) = 2(x + 3)"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it just ask me, "Which of the following represents the graph of f(x) = 2(x + 3)" and gives me four graphs

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

ok... I only see 3 graphs attached

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

I'm missing a graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

ok the answer is really not that one... that's shifting up 3 units and we can't have a parenthesis

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/5590bce2e4b0058b2bb7418d-marcorie-1435548965102-math.gif <-- appears that I'm going down 3 units. Not this one either

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

and it's the wrong sign too. I would've had a - for down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so it has to be the third one?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

I was comparing carefully between the first and this one http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/5590bce2e4b0058b2bb7418d-marcorie-1435549126870-math.gif but it seems like it's right. I'm just double checking the coordinate points.. then again anything that is shifted to the left by a lot should be right

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

blah I meant between the second and third.. looks like the second one is the original and there are graph shifts

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

first and fourth are out...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you i think its the third also

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yeah.. because the first and fourth were obviously not shifting to the left.. I see up and down

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

it was kind of hard because f(x) =2(x+3) is actually a line

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah when i looked it up it showed a lin.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

ahhahaha those guys gave the wrong function XD!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i used the same website

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

oh cool. I had to use that site once last year for Partial Differential Equations D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyway thank you so much :))))

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

you're welcome :)
