PLEASE HELP!! How do you turn this into an equation in slope-intercept form? Kelly had 4 apples in her kitchen on Monday. On Tuesday, only 1 was left.

@Hero @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what would be the slope in this case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

think of slope as a rate of change

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

\[\Large \text{slope} = \frac{\text{change in apples}}{\text{change in number of days}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, I get it. So the slope is -3?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the y-intercept is the amount of apples on the first day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the equation is y = -3x + 4?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep notice how y = 4 when x = 0 then y = 1 when x = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thank you :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no problem
