Two students in your class, Wilson and Alexis, are disputing a function. Wilson says that for the function, between x = -1 and x = 1, the average rate of change is 0. Alexis says that for the function, between x = -1 and x = 1, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how Wilson and Alexis can both be correct, using complete sentences. @phi
someone please help me!
will give medal
hi
hello
can you help me with this one
will try @kaity2017
rate of change = gradient of the line if the average rate of change = 0 between 2 points, then it fluctuates at a constant rate from +ve to negative or from -ve to positive... does this make sense so far?
yes
|dw:1435588549727:dw| k, well this graph, it goes up on a steep gradient to a turning point (in this case a point of reflection) then down on an equal but negative gradient... so over that equal distance the average gradient is = 0 i dont really know how to explain alexis's point, other than that it rules out a graph like the below:
thank you! @Jack1
