A spinner and 2 cards are shown below: A spinner with 7 equal sectors is shown in the figure. The colors Green, Red, Orange, Violet, Pink, Yellow, and Blue are marked on it. The arrow points at the red color. Two cards are shown on the right side. The colors Purple and Green are marked on. Sophie spins the spinner and picks up a card without looking. What is the probability that the spinner stops at red and a green card is selected?

pls help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probability of landing on red = (number of red sections) divided by (number of total sections on spinner)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o hi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probability of picking green card = (number of green cards) divided by (number of total cards)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the probability of picking a green card is 1/5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain your answer ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 divided by 2 is .5 so i made it into a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I have a final exam to do so bye :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is dat a good explanation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that doesnt sound right. you cant make a decimal a whole number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did you get 1/2 from? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.5 = 1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no...0.5 is 1/2 as a fraction. not 1/5. 0.2 is 1/5 as a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that isn't correct. but dont worry. well keep going till you get the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets look at the problem again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not good at math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jeese how much are you typing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you still here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in fact lets just change its wording up a bit to make it more simple. There 7 pieces of pie and each slice has a different color crust. the colors are Green, Red, Orange, Violet, Pink, Yellow, and Blue. and there are two plates. each a different color. the two colors are green and purple. without looking. sophie picks up a piece of the pie and one of te plates. What is the probability that sophie picks up a red piece of pie and a green plate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/7 for the pie and 1/2 for ze plate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exaclty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A)1/49 B)1/16 C)1/14 D)1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... sry forgot to put this at the beggining

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm. okay. lets use what we have already.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that confused me a little hmm...let me think for a second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with the two added together itd be 2/9 lol...hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

luigi pls halp

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well there are 7 equal colors, so that makes the probability of choosing one 1/7. They want to know what are chances of choosing red AND getting a green card.. and there are two cards so that's 1/2. Just multiply them and it should give you what you need \[\large \frac{1}{7} (chance~ of ~it~ landing~ on ~red) * \frac{1}{2} (chance ~of~ getting~ a ~green ~card) \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH MY GOD WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT AGGGHHH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im having an off day today xD

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You tried Sunny (;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bleh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im exhausted tbh xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we totally didnt say that already lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TuringTest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 1//14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/14~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep definitely 1/14 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since 1/7 * 1/2 equals 1/14
