Please help with this!! Use the image below to answer the following question. What relationship do the ratios of sin x° and cos y° share?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

easy peasy ;p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Help me through it? :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

What is the relationship of sides for sin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tan?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

like how tan = opposite/adjacent what is it for sin and cos?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

here is a bigger picture: |dw:1435700825922:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the opposite is the hypotenuse?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

opposite means the side opposite the angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay and i the picture provided that would be C, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im still not understanding what relationship do the ratios of sin x and cos y share.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

|dw:1435701038410:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These are my choices The ratios are both identical (3 over 5 and 3 over 5). The ratios are opposites (negative 3 over 5 and 3 over 5). The ratios are reciprocals (3 over 5 and 5 over 3). The ratios are both negative (negative 5 over 3 and negative 3 over 5).

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so from one of my earlier drawings, it says that sin is opposite over hypotenuse what is the side opposite of angle x?

OpenStudy (valpey):

what is the length of the side opposite angle x? what is the length of the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (valpey):

Then ask: What is the length of the side adjacent to angle y? Is the hypotenuse the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the length of the side opposite angle x? 3 what is the length of the hypotenuse? 5 What is the length of the side adjacent to angle y? 4 Is the hypotenuse the same? no

OpenStudy (valpey):

The side adjacent to y is different than the side adjacent to x. Both have the same hypotenuse because they come from the same right triangle.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

great job valpey :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No entiendo

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

|dw:1435701301335:dw| However, one of the sides is the hypotenuse in a right triangle, so the other side would be the adjacent side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still am not grasping, Im sorry
