The table below shows the number of hours some business people in two states spend in meetings each week State A 21 23 24 22 24 25 23 23 22 State B 24 22 20 23 23 50 20 46 21 Create a five-number summary and calculate the interquartile range for the two sets of data.
start by putting the numbers for each group in order
21 22 22 23 23 23 24 24 25 A 20 20 21 22 23 23 24 46 50 B now what
these are the 5 numbers you're looking for in each group. minimum → lowest number 1st quartile → median of the lower half of numbers median → middle number 3rd quartile → median of the higher half of the numbers maximum → highest number Which ones do you know how to find?
helpp
I don't know how to do it
can you pick out the maximum and minimum in group A
21 25
right. now pick out the median. what number is in the middle of group A?
use the list you wrote in order to pick it out
23
yes that's right. now for the 1st quartile look at the numbers left of the median. They are 21, 22, 22, and 23. We need to find their median. Since it's an even amount of numbers, there you can't just pick it out. We have to add the 2 middle numbers and divide by 2. 1st quartile = (22 + 22)/2 = 22
Does that make sense?
yes
great. so for the 3rd quartile you need to look at the numbers right of the median. So what is the median of 23, 24, 24, and 25?
im confused
what are you confused about?
im not understanding how would I write the summary
the summary is the list of numbers I put up top. We're getting a number for each of those
ok are we almost done
I'm done whenever you are. I was waiting for you to attempt finding the 3rd quartile
how do u find the 3 one
It is the median of 23, 24, 24, and 25. look at what I did for 1q to guide you
I don't understand
that's ok, but you actually have to tell me what you don't understand. Do you understand how I got the 1st quart.
can you tell me the answer cause im really confused and time is running out
Did u get this answer?
