How were the effects of Cold War foreign military actions similar for the United States and the Soviet Union? In both cases, failures in regional wars led the superpowers to lose prestige in the eyes of the world. The intervention of the superpowers in other nations led the people of those nations to rise up in revolt. The need to upgrade and modernize the military for war helped spur the economies of both superpowers. Concerns about American or Soviet intervention led many nations to embrace policies of nonalignment.
