Question

On the number line, the distance between x and 0 is 3

Quantity A: the distance between x and 2 on the number line
Quantity B: 2

Quantity A is greater, Quantity B is greater, Two are equal, Or relationship cannot be determined.

The answer is Quantity B is Greater but I don't know why?

On first inspection, the question looks dodgy. As you said, x can be 3 or -3. That means the distance between x and 2 is either 1 or 5.

I would say that none of the answers are correct, as the relationship CAN be determined, but by absolute values.

Assuming their answer is actually correct, then maybe they mean for x to only be 3, in which case A = 1 and B = 2, so B > A (i.e. B is greater than A).
