I presume the question requires you to solve the equation for p.

So, to do this, we firstly need to rearrange our equation such that all the 'terms' with p are on one side of the '=' sign and all the numbers are on the other.

2 = 6p - 8 - 5p

To remove the '-8' from the right-hand side of the equation, we can add on 8 to both sides (i.e. do the same thing to both sides). In doing this, we are not changing our equation, just writing it in a different way. So:

2 + 8 = 6p - 8 - 5p + 8
2 + 8 = 6p - 5p + (-8 + 8)
2 + 8 = 6p - 5p

Once we have done that, we can add the two numbers together on the left-hand side and subtract the two p terms from one another on the other side.

This will leave us with just 'p' on one side and a single number on the other, which is the solution to our original equation!
