If f(x) = 5x − 1 and g(x) = 2x2 + 1, what is the value of (f × g)(-3)?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

your g(x)=2x²+1, correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So, when you say `(f × g)` all that means is that you multiply whatever `f(x)` is equal to, TIMES whatever `g(x)` is equal to. In this case `f(x)=5x-1` and `g(x)=2x²+1` So in this case, `(f×g)` means `(5x-1)•(2x²+1)`

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

This will give you a new function (f×g)(x)= (whatever you got from this product of the 2 functions) But it is not done yet

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Then, after you get the correct product of the two functions you need to plug in -3 instead of x.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and after this you are done

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

If you got any questions or want to check answer, you are always welcome to ask/check.

Thank you very much! I kept messing up with one of the functions :D

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It's alright.... I would prefer you to show the work in here, so if anything, then I c an correct you. (But it is just a matter of preference , not requirement)
