OpenStudy (summersnow8):

An outfielder throws a baseball at a speed of 110 ft/s at an angle of 25.0 degrees above the horizontal to home plate 290 ft away. Will the ball reach the catcher on the fly or will it bounce first? The answer is 288 ft, and that the ball will bounce. I attempted solving it, but did not get the right answer.

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

This is my work:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you used the wrong value for gravity. The units are in ft so g is 32.2 ft/s²

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

Your logic is perfect. As @peachpi says, you just used the SI units instead of Imperial Units

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

But the answer is in ft why would I convert everything into m ?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

You don't need to convert to meters, just change 9.81 m/s^2 to 32.2 ft/s^2 in your calculations. If you start with ft, you need to use the "g" that has ft \(not\) meters. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (summersnow8):

Yes, sorry I overlooked that

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

Nice job, btw -- you understand this completely!
