Which of the following expressions is equivalent to 6m - 10? 2(3m + 5) -2(5 - 3m) 2(3m - 10)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

none I think it is either -2(-3m+5) or 2(3m-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@audieeeuniverse you there

OpenStudy (condor34):

To me the only one that makes sense is b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For this, you use the distributive property. Which is \[\large \sf a(b+c)=ab+ac\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 is a option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhh, one of those is the answer...

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

^ yeah that's what I mean, but I see a sign error in it unless the question was typed wrong. either the answer choice has a sign error or the question has a sign error.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was copy and pasted

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

now I see it... it was rearranged.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand it

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

use the distributive property on -2( 5-3m)

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

and then rearrange it. that was the problem that I'd overlooked

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

what is -2 x 5 what is -2 x (-3m)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-10 and 6x

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

close ... (I mean it's right, but the variable we have is m so we need to use that -10+6m and then rearrange it to look like 6m-10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

so for -10+6m you just have to write 6m first and then -10 so it's 6m-10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not a option tho its what we are looking for

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

the question is asking Which of the following expressions is equivalent to 6m - 10? we have reached -10+6m which is the same thing but rearranged differently, so we have to rewrite it to see that -10+6m is the same as 6m-10

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

i believe it is the 1st one, no?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

^ it had the + sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

so we can't consider that because it was asking for something similar with 6m-10 so we need the minus sign. the first one seemed to be the option but it had a + so the sign was wrng.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

*wrong

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

yea i caught that 2 @UsukiDoll but the #s r right 4 the first one, so it has 2 b the 1st 1

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

it was wrong due to the sign ok... for the second one we have reached the 6m-10 but it was written as -10+6m. Just rearrange it. It's the same thing!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so b?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (muscrat123):

i know - commutative property-got a # wrong - geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh @UsukiDoll
